Burlon was the son of Travis and Mildred Willis Ivie. He was born in Hillsboro and lived there most of his youth. On May 4, 1957, he married LaVelle Cacy in Hillsboro. In 1958 he went to work for the Hillsboro Fire Department before joining the Carrollton Fire Department in 1960. In January 1992, he retired from Carrollton as Battalion Chief after 31 years. The couple moved back to Hill County in 1982. An avid classic car enthusiast, Burlon's pride was his '53 GMC pickup. He was a member of the Shifters Auto Club in Hillsboro. Burlon and LaVelle also enjoyed traveling in their RV following his retirement. He served in the Army National Guard and was of the Nazarene faith. Preceding him in death were his parents and son-in-law, Jack Kappelman. Survivors include his wife LaVelle Ivie of Hillsboro; 2 children - Vickii Kappelman of Hillsboro and Lonnie Ivie of Carrollton; 2 sisters - Carolyn Porter and husband Coy of Peoria and Pat Chadwick and husband Bobby of Peoria; 2 granddaughters, Torii Kappelman of Hillsboro and Neena Ivie of Carrollton; 1 grandson - Tanner Ivie of Carrollton; 4 nieces, 1 nephew and numerous extended family. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society; 337 Carr Street; Hillsboro, TX 76645.
