Carl Eugene Moss, 80, of Whitney, passed away on May 22, 2016, at Goodall-Witcher Nursing Facility in Clifton after a brief illness. A graveside service, under the direction of Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors, will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, May 27, 2016, at Bethlehem Cemetery in Whitney. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2016, at the funeral home.

Carl was born on August 29, 1935, in Greewood, South Carolina to Louie Wade and Lillian Hortense (Cook) Moss. At an early age, Carl joined the military, serving in the Army, the Air Force and the Air Force Reserve. While stationed at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas, Carl met Joy Jenette Webb of Whitney, and on October 3, 1957, they were united in marriage. To this union, Gaye Lynn, Carl, Jr., and Darrell were born.

Carl left the Air Force, joining the Air Force Reserves, and moved his family to Whitney where he began his career with the US Post Office. In the early 80s, Carl took leave of absence from the Post Office and returned to active duty and served in the Air Force along with his two oldest children, Gaye Lynn and Carl, Jr. In 1984, SMSgt Moss retired from the military and returned to Whitney, the post office and the multitude of golf courses throughout Texas and the Carolinas.

Carl was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Joy (Webb) Moss; sons, Darrell Wade and Carl, Jr.; sisters, Carolyn (Moss) Gentry and Gloria (Moss) Guthrie.

Carl is survived by his daughter Gaye Lynn Cook and husband, David of Whitney; granddaughter, Sarah Cook Barr and husband, Wade of Temple; grandson, David (Trey) Cook, III; great-granddaughter Olivia Barr, also of Temple. Also surviving Carl is his beloved niece, Robin (Gentry) Weisner and husband, Robert of Winston Salem, North Carolina and their children, Brian Weisner and wife, Cindy and daughters Grace and Cate of Winston-Salem and Amy (Weisner) Cole and husband, James of Charlotte, NC.
