Carolyn Sue “Ivie” Porter, 74, of Peoria, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at Providence Hospice Place in Waco. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2020, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Eddie Booth officiating. Burial will follow at Peoria Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 13, at the funeral home.
Carolyn was born July 28, 1945, in Hillsboro, the daughter of Elmer Travis and Mildred Inez (Willis) Ivie. She was raised in Hillsboro and attended school there. On April 10, 1972, she was united in marriage to Coy Porter. For over 40 years, Carolyn worked as a waitress at The Thunderbird Restaurant in Hillsboro.
Her favorite time of the year was springtime when she could be outside working in her yard and tending to her flowers. She loved all flowers but daises, yellow roses, and blue bonnets were her favorites. Carolyn also took great pride in taking care of her loved ones' cemetery lots and spent countless hours doing so. Her family was very important to her and she especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of Peoria Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Travis and Mildred Ivie; husband, Coy Nolan Porter, on March 16, 2018; daughter, Peggy DeAnn Adcock; son, Rodney Allan Adcock; brother, Burlon Ivie; sister-in-law, Myragean Porter; and brother-in-law, Troy Porter.
Survivors include her children, Ricky Glenn Porter of Hillsboro and Nannette Sue Janeway and husband, Wayne, of Crosby; sister, Patricia Darlene Chadwick and husband, Bobby, of Peoria; sister-in-law, LaVelle Ivie; brother-in-law, Lloyd Porter of Hillsboro; three grandchildren, Adam Dobbs, Destiny Smith and husband, Josh, and Brandy Reyes and husband, Salome; five great-grandchildren, Joseph, Skyler, Ava, Jasmine, and Nikolas; special nephew, Randy Porter of Corsicana; pet companion, Katie; and several nieces and nephews.
