Carolyn Ann Smith

On March 27, 2020, Carolyn Slaton Smith, our precious sweet Mom, Grandma, Nanny, Aunt, and Sister joined her Heavenly Father.  The family will hold a private graveside service.  A memorial service will be held at a latter date.

Carolyn was loved by everyone she came into contact with.  Someone once described Carolyn as “home”, what a wonderful light she was. Another way someone described Carolyn is that she was the sweetest soul she ever met.  Carolyn loved life, her children, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.  She also loved fishing and most of all she loved her church. She was a member of Belmont Baptist Church in Odessa, TX and First Baptist Church of Whitney, TX. One of her many gifts was cooking and she used that gift to organize and carry out duties of the kitchen in the church. She loved making everything beautiful and amazing just like she was. She always met you with a hug, smile, and an invitation for food and her famous sweet tea. Carolyn loved flowers and her garden and making sure the yard was perfect.

Carolyn is survived by her children who rise up and call her blessed, Kathy McDaniel and her husband, Steve McDaniel, of Odessa, Cindy Springer of Whitney, Liz Riddle and her husband, Mike Riddle, of Gatesville, and Terry Langen and her husband, Danny Langen, Kevin Smith and his wife, Kay Smith, and April Holden all of Tyler. Carolyn is also survived by her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Carolyn has entered heaven to join her husband, Bill Slaton, of 23 years. Her husband of 37 years, Chester Smith, greeted her at the pearly gates as well. Two other angels that she got to see again are her two children, Charlotte Wilson and Marshall Smith.

Her parents, Zelda and Claude Melton, her two sisters, Sunshine Taylor and Mildred Gorham, and her brother, David Melton, all gained their wings and got to give Carolyn hers. What a reunion Carolyn had!

She will be greatly missed is an understatement. We love you always our mom, nanny, grandma, and friend. Go rest high on that mountain because you have victory in Jesus now.
