Carolyn Ruth Swinford, age 64 of Hillsboro, Texas passed away Thursday, August 10, 2023, at her residence. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Open Range Cowboy Church in Whitney with Dr. Gerald Dudley and Pastor Mike Spradlin officiating. A burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Whitney. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney.
Carolyn Ruth Swinford was one of four children born to Joyce (Jones) Thames. She was born in Denver City, Texas, and then moved to Hill County as a child. Carolyn raised two children and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse. As a nurse, she worked in the clinic, home health, and the hospital, and touched many lives over the years. In 1987 she married James Swinford and they blended their families, they lived the rest of her life in the Hillsboro and Whitney area. Carolyn loved to go camping and travel to the mountains with friends and family. She was an avid reader and often had her nose in some kind of book. After retiring from nursing, her favorite thing to do was to keep all her grandchildren and later her great-grandchildren whom she loved very much.
She was preceded in death by many loved ones.
Carolyn was survived by her husband, James Swinford of Whitney; son, John Ford and wife Amy of Grand Prairie, Texas; daughter, Lynda Wooten of Hillsboro, Texas; daughter, Shanna Girsh; and son, Chris Swinford of Whitney; niece, Kimberly Thames of West, her nine grandchildren, Josh Wooten, Maygan Wooten, and Shanna Watts, Jholi Gonzalez and Heaven Ford, Hayleigh Swinford and Luke Swinford, Cayden Girsh, and Addysen Girsh; her eleven great-grandchildren include, Kaedynce Wooten and Raelynn Wooten, Karaline Lang, Kandace Bartley, and Kholeson Bartley, Rylee Ford, Phoenix Enos, Hudson Gonzalez, Wiliam, Lucas, and Bradley Watts; and one great-niece, Lindly Rynders.
