Catheren Davis

Catheren “Cathy” Davis, 93, of Hillsboro passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro. Committal services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 2, 2014, at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro with Rev. Leah Hidde-Gregory and Rev. Reed Justus officiating.

Cathy was born on August 11, 1921 in Pfeiffer, Arkansas to Hiram and Laura Broadwater. She grew up in Arkansas and married Charles “Jeep” Davis there on June 16, 1940. They moved to Hillsboro in December of 1949 and she worked at the Hillsboro Clinic for 20 years. In 1962, she and Mary Kinard became co-owners of Fireside Place Nursing Home in Hillsboro and later opened Whitney Nursing Home in Whitney for ten years. After she and Mary sold Fireside Place Nursing Home, she traveled with Jeep and helped him with his job until he retired.

She started playing golf at the age of 40. Cathy and Jeep went to many Senior couples golf tournaments around Texas. She helped start the Ladies Golf Association at the Hillsboro Country Club and was club champion for many years. She had 9 hole in ones and wanted 12, but had to give up golf after an injury. Another of Cathy’s favorite pastimes other than golf was going fishing.

Cathy loved her church and was very active as a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hillsboro where she helped with all of the activities. She also recruited many new members to the church. She helped form the Hill County Republican Women’s Club and was active in that organization as a member. In her later years, she loved to make cookies and cakes which she carried to the nursing homes and shut-ins.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Jeep, on February 17, 1998; sister, DeNora Gilliam; and brothers, Ralph and Oscar Jefferson Broadwater.

Survivors include her son, Spotswood Davis and wife, Sharon; grandsons, Jeff and Jason Davis all of Dallas.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 673, Hillsboro, TX 76645.

The church will provide lunch following the service.
