Cecil was born on October 1, 1929, to Cecil Newton Murphy, Sr. and Thelma Bernice Duvall in Ellis County, TX. After graduating from Waco High School in 1948, he was drafted into the United States Army. After serving in the US Army as a Lieutenant, he attended Baylor University and graduated with an accounting degree. After graduation, he began working for Southwestern Life Insurance Company in Dallas for 30 years.
In 1948, he met Allynne “Lynne” Owen, and they wed in 1950, going on to have four children, Mike, Larry, David, and Kay. Cecil was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of his children and family and always tried his best to support them.
Cecil was also a passionate genealogist and could often be found researching historical archives on the Murphy family. Anyone who knew Cecil (whether you called him Dad, Papa Daddy, Sonny, Jr., Uncle Murphy, Uncle Jr.or just Cecil)knew that he was the most loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, co-worker and friend.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lynne; a son, Mike; a brother, Richard Wayne “Buddy” Murphy; and a sister, Bonnie Jean Murphy.
He is survived by Mike’s wife, Sheryl of Roanoke; two sons, Larry Murphy and wife, Sandy of The Villages, Florida, and David Murphy and Laura Benzenhoefer of Whitney; daughter, Kay Murphy of Waco; four grandchildren, Chad Murphy and wife, Michelle of Corinth, Eric Murphy of Lake Worth, Heather Murphy of Waco, Shelby Murphy of Roanoke; five great grandchildren, Hunter Murphy, Paige Murphy, Addison Murphy, Isaiah Murphy, and Cody Murphy.
