Cecil Harris “Stubby” Stubblefield, 84, formerly of Hillsboro, passed away in his home at Georgetown on Monday, April 15, 2013, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at the First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro with Rev. Donna Ware, Rev. Reed Justus, and Rev. Larry Zabcik officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro. A memorial service will also be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at The Wesleyan at Estrella, 137 Estrella Crossing, Georgetown, TX 78628.

Stubby was born in Hillsboro on August 23, 1928 to Cecil and Beerah Stubblefield. He attended Hillsboro schools, Allen Military Academy, Hill College and Texas A & M and proudly served in the Corps of Cadets. He served 14 years in the National Guard and two years in the Army Reserve. On June 23, 1951, he married Mary Beth Forstner and she preceded him in death in 2006.

After living in Hillsboro all of his life, he moved to Georgetown in 2011 to start a new life near his family. He had many occupations including cotton, ranching, banking and real estate. He was active in scouting, the Methodist Church, Lions Club, Masons and the Confederate Research Center. Visiting with people, studying history and traveling, taking many cruises and trips over the past several years, are the things he loved most.

He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include three children, Ches Stubblefield and wife, Linda, of Austin, Nancy Rinehart and husband, Charlie, of San Antonio, and Julie Barton and husband, Karey, of Dripping Springs; five grandchildren, Erika Stubblefield of Austin, Philip Doskocil who is serving in the United States Navy, Laura Morris and husband, Adam, of Hillsboro, and Ali and Alex Burton both of Austin; and two great-grandchildren, Coby Doskocil and Aidan Morris both of Hillsboro.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 673, Hillsboro, TX 76645; Wesleyan Benevolent Fund or Wesleyan Hospice, P. O. Box 486, Georgetown, TX 78627.
