Chance Mabry, age 25 of Whitney passed away Monday, January 2, 2017, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, January 5, at the Open Range Cowboy Church of Whitney with Rev. Chance was born in Waco on August 21, 1991, to Ray and Mary (Price) Mabry. He grew up in Whitney and graduated from Whitney High School. Currently in his fourth year at the University of Texas in San Antonio, he was majoring in geology. Ever since he was a small child, he had been fascinated by rocks and fossils. He was in his element both hunting and fishing, just enjoying nature. A lifetime member of the NRA, he also competed in BPCR shooting matches.

As most young people, he loved listening to a wide range of music, but especially Johnny Cash.
It was at an early age that he displayed an industrious side when he began raising chickens and selling eggs in the neighborhood. He cherished the time he was able to spend playing video games with his nephew, Cross. Chance was a very generous, tender-hearted young man who would give anyone in need the shirt off his back. He loved his family and especially the time spent on family trips, including those to Myrtle Beach and Alaska. He was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church near Whitney.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Thomas Ray Mabry, Sr., Jerry and Sue Foster, Ernest Price, and Johnnie Campbell; brother, Matt Middlebrook; and niece, Kayla Anderson.

He is survived by his loving parents, Ray and Mary Mabry of Whitney; sister, Carri Anderson of Whitney; uncles and aunts, Jim and Connie Mabry of China Spring, John Mabry and Amanda Clements of Woodbury, and Thressa Price of Whitney; 3 nephews, Cross Middlebrook, Kendrick Anderson, and Kobe Anderson; and 4 cousins, Brandi Mabry, Brooke Kuykendall, Dillon Mabry, and Melissa Mabry.
