Charlene Wingate

Charlene Wingate, 79, of Hillsboro died Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Charlene was born December 19, 1929 in Hill County the daughter of Charlie and Bessie Farquhar Gillaspie. She lived in Hill County all of her life and attended Abbott schools. On December 20, 1951 she married Joe Riley Wingate in Milford and he preceded her in death on February 14, 2005. The couple loved to travel and fish. She was artistic and enjoyed making arts and crafts and sewing. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Also preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Leon and Noel Gillaspie; and two sisters, Joann Lee and Maurine Blocker. Survivors include her three daughters, Charlotte Wingate of Austin, Rebecca Howell of Kemp, and Teresa Kruger of Hillsboro; brother, Weldon Gillaspie of Forney; sister, Bonnie Franklin of Hillsboro; four grandchildren, Phillip Vaughan of Austin, Melody Coleman of Malone, Christopher Howell of Grand Saline, and Megan Howell of Iraq; great-granddaughter, Riley Coleman of Malone; and many nieces and nephews.
