There will be a funeral service at 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 23, 2016, at Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, TX, after which he will be laid to rest near his beloved mother and father at Hillcrest Garden of Memory. Viewing and visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service on Friday at church.
Charles was born in Irene, Texas on August 30, 1938 to Orene Gehring and William Degner. He grew up in Whitney, Texas, graduating from high school there in 1956. After moving to Orange, Texas he worked his way through college, graduating from Lamar University in 1968. Charles had a successful career in the oil business, working for Gulf Oil and then Chevron for 32 years before retiring in 2000.
Charles married his bride, Loraine, on April 8, 1989 and they spent 27 wonderful years together. They lived in California during their work years, but enjoyed their retirement in Huntsville, Texas.
Everyone that knew him can attest to Charles’ deep and abiding faith in our Lord Jesus, and that he looked forward to the day when he would be united with his Heavenly Father. He was an active member at every church he attended, most recently at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Conroe, Texas. He loved life and loved people, and was never shy about sharing how truly blessed he felt to have the family and career God gave him.
In addition to his wife, Loraine, Charles is survived by his sons, Randy and Steve, step-daughter, Jennifer, and grandsons, Zane and Zach. He also precedes his brother, August, and sister-in-law, Joanne, as well his sister, Donna, and brother-in-law, Roy. In his journey home to heaven, he joins his mom and dad as well as his sister, Barbara, and brother-in-law, Bobby.
While his family and friends are saddened by his passing, we also rejoice that he has received his eternal reward.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to St. Mark Lutheran Church, 2100 Tickner Street, Conroe, TX 77301.
