Charles Arthur Maynard Jr., 81, of Whitney, passed away Saturday September 1, 2012, at Providence Hospital in Waco, Texas. Services will be held at 10 A.M. Wednesday, September 5, at the Open Range Cowboy Church in Whitney with Rev. Gerald Dudley officiating. Interment will follow at Kimball Cemetery near Kopperl. Viewing will be from 9 AM until 9 PM, Tuesday, September 4, at the funeral home.
Charles was born February, 18, 1931, in Dallas, Texas to the late Charles Arthur and Minnie Louise (Schultz) Maynard, Sr. Charles grew up in Lubbock and spent most of his life there. Charles married Ruth Powell May 8, 1948; she preceded him in death on October 5, 2002. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting; he also had indoor activities he loved and they included dancing, dominoes, bowling and watching old westerns, especially any John Wayne movies. He moved to Whitney in 2003. He was a member of the Open Range Cowboy Church.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sybil Maynard; brothers, Frank(Bub) Maynard, Melvin Maynard and Willie Moore.
Survivors include his children Chuck Maynard and wife, Christine of Whitney, Kathy Snelgrove and husband, Edwin of Lakeside Village, Sherry Waller and husband, Don of Lakeside Village; 12 grandchildren, Dwayne Whitman, Ruth (Angel) Duncan, David Hughes and wife, Kristin, Gary Whitman and wife Jeannine, Harmony Balentine , Chuck Maynard II, Cody Maynard, David Waller, Brittny Waller, Amy Snelgrove; 16 great-grandchildren, Cody O’Briant, Tatum Wilson, Tallon Balentine, Trey Balentine, Kylle Hughes, Penn Hughes, Robin Duncan, Kelley Duncan, Milton Duncan, Adam Snelgrove, Colton Whitman, Phoenix Slayter, Donovan Slayter, Aunica Slater, Jazmine Whitman; niece, Jerry Childers and husband, Dan and nephew Donnie Maynard and wife Mitzy; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
