Charles Wayne Smith, 68, of Whitney, passed away on July 24, 2016 at his residence. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, July 29, 2016 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.

Charles was born on January 13, 1948, in Hillsboro, to Walter “Pug” and Loleta (Dutton) Smith. He grew up in the Hillsboro and Whitney area and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1966.

On February 1, 1974, he married Phyllis Navara in Bellmead. He worked at Fleetwood Homes in Waco for 20 years and was also the manager at Oneida in Hillsboro for 18 years. A music lover, he especially liked old country music. He enjoyed fishing and hunting for arrowheads. He also served in the National Guard in Waco. Charles was of the Baptist faith.

His family was very important to him and he loved them unconditionally, but his grandchildren were the lights of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter “Pug” Smith and David and Loleta Luther; and a brother, Marvin Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Smith of Whitney; children, Kristi Woellert and husband, Glenn of Whitney, Kim Hamilton and husband, William of Moody, and Michael Smith and wife, Korri of Cleburne; grandchildren, William Hamilton III and Charlee Grace Hamilton, both of Moody; brothers Ronnie Don Smith of Whitney, David Luther, Jr., of Ennis and Revis Luther of Whitney; sister-in-law, Joy Smith of Three Rivers; nieces, Missy Bachhofer and husband, Marty of Kopperl, Donna Owens and husband, Cody of Lake Jackson, Kathy Jones and husband, Curtis of George West; nephew, Chris Smith and wife, Maranda of Three Rivers; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and faithful pet companions, Hank and Bo.

Memorials may be made to the Whitney Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 2050, Whitney, TX 76692.
