Charles Ewing Sullins, 68, of Hillsboro passed away Monday, November 17, 2014, at Methodist Medical Center in Dallas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 21, 2014, at Central Baptist Church in Hillsboro with Rev. Darrel Beggs, Mr. Dennis Brearley, and Mr. Tommy Hale officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2014, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Born March 23, 1946 in Hillsboro, Charles was the son of R. D. and Zela “Tippie” (Horne) Sullins. After graduating from Hillsboro High School in 1964, he went on to serve his country in the United States Navy. On April 9, 1965, Charles was united in marriage to Paula Goldman in Itasca.

Charles had a very successful and rewarding career in law enforcement which he loved. He served as Chief of Police with the Waxahachie and Red Oak Police Departments, Chief Deputy with the Hill County Sheriff’s Department and as Commander of a nine county Drug Task Force. In 2011, Charles retired as Chief Deputy with the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department. He was working part-time with Correct-Care Solutions as a Public Relations Liason until his passing. He was very much a people person and loved taking care of them. Charles and Paula were cottage parents at the Waxahachie Presbyterian Children’s Home for 11 years and assisted in raising approximately 65 children. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Hillsboro, Hillsboro Masonic Lodge #196, Waxahachie Masonic Lodge #90, and was a Scotish Rite 32nd degree Mason. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening. Preceding him in death was his father, R. D. Sullins, on October 30, 2011.

Survivors include his wife, Paula Sullins of Hillsboro; mother, Tippie Sullins of Hillsboro; children, Charles Ewing (Chuck) Sullins, Jr. and wife, Suzi, of Kodiak, Alaska, Stephanie Dawn Tinkey and husband, Derek, of Hillsboro, Rebecca Dee Tomlinson and husband, Ira, of Pflugerville, and Zachary and Alexis Sullins of Austin; brother, Randy Sullins and wife, Gladys of Hillsboro; sisters, Brenda Fleming and husband, Mike, and Sylvia Lake and husband, Martin, all of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Colton and Katelyn Tinkey of Hillsboro, Brysin and Ariyana Tomlinson of Pflugerville, and Cameron and Chase Sullins of Kodiak, Alaska; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, work acquaintances and friends.
