Charles Loyd Tekell, of Itasca, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 28 at the age of 87. The funeral will be held 2:00 PM Monday, December 2, 2019 at the Walnut Street Baptist Church in Hillsboro, Texas. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Garden of Memory. A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Sunday, December 1, 2019 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro, Texas.
He was born on June 11, 1932 in Abilene, Texas to Newton and Ruby (Ivy) Tekell. As a young child, Charles’ family relocated to Hill County where he was able to grow up and eventually build a foundation for his own family’s home. He married Rebecca “Becky” Sue Hill of Whitney on July 18, 1953. Together, they were blessed with a large and loving family and raised five children on their family farm in Itasca.
Charles was a member of the United States Army and was stationed for a time at Ladd Air Force Base in Alaska serving as a Firefighter. He served on the Itasca School Board, Files Valley Water Supply Board, and on the Itasca Grain Co-op Board. He was an active member and dedicated deacon of Walnut Street Baptist Church.
Charles was a generous farmer who not only grew food for his own family, but shared many of the crops with his friends and neighbors. He was most known for his “sweet corn” and took great pride in growing Podsednic pecans. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who adored and provided for his family.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Newton and Ruby Tekell; brothers Harold, Adron, and Melvin Tekell; and one sister, Joyce Boyd. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Sue (Hill) Tekell of Itasca; his five children: Sandra Sue (Tekell) Brackin and husband Regi of Arlington, Kenneth Charles Tekell and wife Jo of Itasca, Kathi Gay (Tekell) Rogers and husband Danny of Hillsboro, Scotty Howard Tekell and wife Kelly of Whitney, Timothy Marshal Tekell and wife Susan of Lorena; his 12 grandchildren: David Wayne Brackin and wife Martha of Itasca, Jaime (Grisham) Siegert and husband Ryan of College Station, Alaina Sue (Brackin) Aday and husband Jeff of Midlothian, Michael Scott Brackin and wife Hannah of Bryan, Justin Dan Rogers and wife Crystal of Burleson, Jeremy Lynn Rogers and wife Linette of Hillsboro, Kailee Marie (Rogers) Moorehead and husband Roy of Houston, Travis Scott Tekell and wife Emily of Midlothian, Lyncon Taylor (Tekell) Martinez and husband Landry of Weatherford, Dylan Blake Tekell of Waco, Kelsi Paige Tekell of Arizona, and Brooke Rebecca Tekell of College Station; his 15 great-grandchildren: Gillian Rose Brackin, Farryn Nicole Aday, Hannah Ruth Brackin, Adalynn Paige Aday, Rylan Raely Siegert, Remi Grace Siegert, Kase Michael Brackin, Katie Hill Brackin, Myles Wayne Brackin, Caden Fitzgerald Moorehead, Jace Andrew Rogers, Beckham Asher Tekell, Macey Rose Brackin, Ledger Coe Martinez, and Bo Wesley Brackin; his brother Jerry Tekell of Hillsboro; his sister Dorothy (Tekell) Duncan of Hillsboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Walnut Street Baptist Church, 100 Walnut Hill Ave., Hillsboro, Texas 76645.
