Charles Marvin Townsend, 84, of Whitney passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011, in Temple. Charles died of congestive heart failure and Alzheimer’s disease. His body will be cremated and a private service will be held at a later date.
Charles was born a country boy in Kempner, TX, lived organically by necessity and later in life chose to push Texas toward organic growing and eating by incorporating Texas Organic Grower’s Association (TOGA) in 1996. He had an animal ministry and gave stray kittens a place to sleep and eat and provided them with medical attention. He was a good husband and father, good provider and nurturer; a good friend.
He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Michael, who died at age 18 in a plane crash. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; a sister, Marie Montgomery of Bertram, TX; a brother, Byron Townsend of Buda, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Hill County Paw Pals, P. O. Box 1533, Hillsboro, TX 76645; Texas Organic Farmer’s and Grower’s Association (TOFGA), P.O. Box 48, Elgin, TX 78621; or to your favorite charity.
