Charles (Charlie) Loyd Mason

Charles “Charlie” Loyd Mason passed peacefully, in the presence of family, on September 4, 2023. He was 75 years old.

Charlie was born on December 28th, 1947, in Corsicana, Texas, and was the son of late W.L. Mason and Ruthie Mason. Charlie graduated from Tuloso-Midway High School in Corpus Christi and then moved in 1975 to the place he would call home, Whitney, Texas.

Charlie was a man of many pursuits. Most recently, he was the sole employee of “Mason, Google, and Bing,” the law firm he created from the comfort of his home. He spent countless hours working on his case, which he took all the way to federal court . He spent most his adult life trying to “crack the code” at horse racing, which he never did, and schmoozing everyone around him, which he was highly successful at. He looked forward to his yearly trips to WinStar, where he loved to push his luck. He spent his last several years at Homestead Nursing and Rehabilitation, where he truly had the time of his life making friends and attending as many activities as he could. He faithfully attended Bible study every week. He was at peace with God.

Charlie was a faithful friend, a loving brother and father, and a doting grandfather. He loved his family more than anything else in the world, but several things were a close second: great steaks, making deals, and Fox News.

Charlie is preceded in death by his father and mother, Loyd and Ruthie Mason. He leaves behind his sister and closest friend Charlotte Cheek and husband Joe, his two daughters: Jennifer Leggett and husband Bubba, and Donna Mason, his six grandchildren: Tiffany Forester and husband Nathan, Jessa Mahaney and husband Hunter, Colton Leggett, Kate-Lynn Lindeman, Emma-Lee and Gracee Jo Meyers, his five great grandchildren: Charlie, Magnolia, Flint, Wallace, and Opal, his niece Renee Wohleb and husband Clement, and his great-niece and -nephew, Lexi and McKennon Wohleb.

Funeral services will be held at Marshall & Marshall in Whitney, Texas, on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 2:00pm. Interment will follow at Peoria Cemetery in Peoria, Texas.

As Charlie was affectionately known as “The Mayor of Homestead,” donations can be made in his honor to the Activities Department of Homestead Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hillsboro, Texas, in lieu of flowers.
