Charles Glen Allen

Charles Glen Allen, age 91, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021 in Waco. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Ridge Park Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Masks and social distancing are required.

Glen was born October 20, 1929 in Whitney, Texas, the son of Joseph Henry and Amy Lola (Barnett) Allen.  He attended schools in Del Mar, Huron, and Whitney, graduating in 1948.  He worked for Gollihar Hereford Ranch in Whitney and later became manager of the show string. Glen served in the Army National Guard of the United States and the Texas National Guard of Texas from 1950 through 1957. Glen and Lillian Klutts married on December 22, 1951. They purchased the farm across the road from Lillian's parents in Hillsboro in 1953, where they spent almost 70 years together.  They began raising their own Registered Polled Hereford cattle.

They began showing in 1971, winning every major Polled Hereford championship - Fort Worth, Denver, Memphis, Louisville, Dallas, Tulsa, Kansas City, Phoenix, Billings, Houston and more. In 1985, they sold their Polled Herefords and began raising Brafords. In 1986, the Fort Worth Polled Hereford Show was dedicated to Glen and Lillian for their outstanding achievements. They were also awarded the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce Farm Family of the Year Award in 1986. They began their foundation herd of Registered Boer goats in the 1990's. The Allen family legacy of quality goats continued for many years.

Their success with both cattle and goats was due to hard work, integrity, making sound decisions, never giving up, and seeing things through. They taught their children the same values.

Glen was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Hillsboro First Baptist Church where he attended both worship and Sunday school. He loved gardening and watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren showing their animals, barrel racing, sports, and other activities.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nena Caperton and grandson, Brian Glen Allen in 2008.

Glen is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Lillian; their children, Barbara Dudley and husband, Gerald of Whitney, Mike Allen and wife, Sharon of Whitney, and Kenny Allen and wife, Lori of Hillsboro; three living grandchildren, Amy Hoffman and husband, Nick of Whitney, Kelly Allen of Stephenville, and Kory Allen of Memphis, Tennessee; four great grandchildren, Cassie Allen and Camryn Camp of Peoria and River Hoffman and Hunter Hoffman of Whitney; granddaughter in law, Sarah Allen Camp and husband, Mike of Peoria; and two nieces.

Memorials may be made to Paw Pals of Hillsboro or the Cody Allen Scholarship Fund in care of E. C. Rosson 963 FM 2959 Hillsboro, Texas  76645.
