Charlotte Maxine Maxey Steel, 93, of Waco died Friday, May 25, 2007, at Providence Health Care Center in Waco. She was born December 29, 1913 in Lorena, Texas the daughter of Herbert and Nell Loraine Schaeffer Maxey. She graduated from Waco High School. She went to work in the lab at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center where she was head of the blood bank. In 1950 she married Jack Steel and they moved to Hillsboro where Jack opened an optometry practice and Maxine helped as receptionist. She was very active in the schools, community, and social activities. Maxine and Jack were members of the Central Christian Church in Hillsboro. Preceding her in death were her parents and beloved twin sister, Maurine Maxey Connally. Survivors include her husband, Jack Steel of Waco; two daughters, Ann Steel Simmons of Kennesaw, GA and Karen Steel Valentine of Waco; three grandchildren, Ryan Valentine of Austin, Jill Hill of Wylie, and Jeremy Valentine of Garland; and five great-grandchildren.
