Clarence Edward Finley, Jr.

Clarence Edward Finley Jr, 78, of Whitney passed away and went home to Heavenly pastures on May 6th. He was born in Marion, North Carolina to his parents Clarence & Connie. A memorial will be held for Papaw at a later date that is to be determined.

His name may have been Clarence but to everyone he was known as Papaw. Papaw always lived by the words “Stand for something or you’ll fall for anything.” Those words will live on through his friends and family for many years to come and is a great reminder for us all.

Papaw could always be found working his cows, sitting on the porch talking to anyone who would talk to him or out back coon hunting with friends and family. He taught many young men how to coon hunt and how to be a very respectable young man throughout his many years. He was a selfless man and one of the most hard working and kindest souls you could ever meet. He loved to spend time with his lifelong friends Tommy Cox & wife Mary, James Porter, Johnny Matthews and Marty Penny. But most of all, he loved to spend all his time with his loving wife Freida and would never be found far away from her side unless he was out working on the farm or at Walmart but she wasn’t too far behind.

He is preceded in death by both of his parents, Clarence and Connie Finley and his nephew O.J. Finley.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Freida Finely; his daughter Sherry Finley and grandson Tanner Finley, whom he had raised as his own son and spouse Aimee;  by his son Tim Finley & spouse Roby and their daughter Rachel & spouse Kolby and daughter Ryan; and also son Garrett & spouse Alicia; and his son Norman Finley & spouse Shannon & grandson Nicholas. and by his youngest son Clarence Finley III & grandson Harley. He is also survived by his great-grandkids Mason, Kase, Cole, and Brandt; his brothers Stoney Finley & Ossie J Finley; and nieces Tammy, Donna, and Margaret as well as other numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
