Clayton Mitchell, 71, of Hillsboro passed away Tuesday morning, July 17, 2018, at Homestead Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2018, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Dr. Tim Marrow officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be from Noon-1:00 p.m. prior to service time at the funeral home.
Born May 13, 1947, in Hillsboro, he was the son of Coy Clayton and Vera Attys (Hinton) Mitchell. He grew up in Hillsboro and was a 1965 graduate of Hillsboro High School. Soon after he began his studies at the University of Texas at Arlington and in 1989 he received his BA degree in Sociology.
Clayton had a long and varied career in customer and social services including positions at Hawk & High Grocery, Town Hall Estates Nursing Home, Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors, Wal-Mart, S&K Men’s Wear, Polo Ralph Lauren, and others.
A very devoted son, Clayton dedicated 12 years of his life to caring for his mother during her battle with Alzheimers. He loved his family dearly and relished spending time with them. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Lou Ann Morman and her husbands, Dwain Marrow and Joe Morman; and two brothers-in-law, James “Hoppy” Ryan and David “Buck” Emery.
Survivors include three sisters, Bertha Nell Ryan of Bedford, Coylene Emery of Grandview, and Billie Clendennen and husband, David, of Whitney; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
