Col. Joe Kendall, Usaf Ret.

Col. Joe Frank Kendall, USAF Ret., 89, of Covington slipped his earthly bond to meet his Lord on March 20, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Covington with Dr. Eric Black and Dr. Frank Morrow officiating. Burial will follow at Covington Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, March 23, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Joe was born in Rockwall, Texas on August 12, 1928, to Frank and Edna Kendall. He graduated from Texas A&M University, Class of 1949. While teaching agricultural education in Grandview, Joe met Mary Sue Burt, his loving wife of 64 years, at the First National bank of Grandview. Joe entered Officer Training School for the USAF during the Korean War.

Joe had a 31-year career in the USAF. He served as a navigator on the B-29, B-47, B-52, and FB-111 and in multiple operational command positions. After retirement, Joe returned to his rural roots at his farm in Covington, Texas. Despite crewing aircraft at supersonic speed, Joe found his greatest contentment tilling earth at a tractor’s pace. He raised cattle and tended his large garden and fruit trees.

Joe actively served his community at the Covington Masonic Lodge, and Moslah Shrine Temple of Fort Worth. He was a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Covington. He loved God, country, family, his bountiful garden, and Texas A&M University. His two sons, daughter, two granddaughters --and counting-- have followed his legacy and attended Texas A&M University.

Joe is survived by his wife, Sue; sons, Joe Mark and wife, Jacque, of Shreveport and Michael and wife, Jem, of Southlake; daughter, Diann Kendall of Fort Worth; four grandchildren, Kyle Kendall, Whitney Garmhausen, Katria Kimble, and Mica Kendall; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Kendall Garmhausen; and brother, Ken and his wife, Pasty, of Garland.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 145, Covington, TX 76636.
