Curtis Lynn Auten, 69, of Arlington, Texas, died February 12, 2012 after a short battle with cancer.
Services will be held on Friday, February 17, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney with Rev. Eddie Booth officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Thursday at Marshall & Marshall in Whitney.
Curtis was born March 20, 1942, in Gorman, Texas to the late Marshall and Lillie Otwell Auten. After graduating in 1960 from King High School in Kingsville, Texas, Curtis served his country honorably in the United States Army in Vietnam, where he worked as a cryptanalyst. He later continued his education, earning a bachelor’s degree from Dallas Baptist University. He retired from Bell Helicopter Textron after 45 years of service.
On May 25, 1996, he married Joanne Lajeunesse in St. Jerome, Quebec, Canada. His lifelong passion of learning how things work, and then keeping them working, was an endless source of benefit and privilege to all who knew him. He will be remembered for his unique, wry sense of humor, and his unfailing dedication to his family.
Also preceding him in death were his brother, Norman D. Auten and his niece, Dawn Auten Cook.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Joanne; sister, Rita Ogletree; children, Shannon Auten, Norman S. Auten, Shelley Auten Schnittker, Chris Auten, and son-in-law, Mike Schnitttker; stepchildren, Eric, Hugues, and Edith Charbonneau; five grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
