Cynthia Kay Murphree Holland, 54, of Pensacola, FL went to be with her Lord on Friday, January 13, 2012, at the family home in Hillsboro, TX. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 16, 2012, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Danny Gilliam officiating. Visitation will follow the memorial service at the funeral home.

Cindy was born on August 10, 1957 in Andrews, TX where she lived before moving with her family to Hillsboro. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1975. In 1979 she received her B. A. degree in Art Education from North Texas State. For seventeen years, she was employed by Meadows, Collier, Reed, Cousins, Crouch and Ungerman Law Firm in Dallas, TX as an Administrative Assistant and Office Manager. Later, she returned to college earning two master’s degrees, one being a M. A. in Art Therapy from the University of Louisville in 1996 and a Master’s of Social Work from Florida International University in 2004. For ten years she was a certified Art Therapist for the Miami-Dade County School District in Miami, FL. Cindy was also an ESE teacher with the Escambia County School District in Pensacola, FL and was a licensed clinical social worker.

In March 2004, Cindy married Jerry Wayne Holland in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Together they enjoyed sailing, swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, and traveling. Cynthia loved working with children, both as an art therapist and social worker always helping people wherever she could. She was a member of many service organizations and sailing clubs. She advocated for children in the court system as a Court Appointed Special Advocate. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro and will be deeply missed by all.

Cynthia was preceded in death by a brother, Ewell Gary Murphree.

Cynthia is survived by her husband, Jerry Holland of Pensacola, FL; parents, Ann and Don Murphree of Hillsboro, TX; her mother-in-law, Frances Marie Perkins of Louisville, KY; sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Billy Ray Gerke of Itasca, TX; niece, Sherry Davis and husband, Harley, of Itasca, TX; two nephews, Andrew Gerke and wife, Leah, of Whitney, TX and Jonathan Gerke of Bangor Naval Base, Washington State; three aunts, Janet Ann Gordon, Marcheta McClung, and Ilene “Poodle” Neil all of Hillsboro, TX; uncle Bill Wimberly of Denton, TX; goddaughter, Donna Dezendorf; sister-in-law, Norma Higgins and husband, Ed, of Louisville, KY; and numerous cousins.
