Dale Preston Archer, 70, of Whitney died Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. Dale was born October 2, 1935 in Waxahachie, Texas the son of D. P. and Marie Fincher Archer. In 1954 he graduated from Waxahachie High School where he played basketball. After high school, he attended Navarro Junior College and played basketball. He later transferred to Texas Wesleyan University where he graduated with B.A. and M. A. degrees. On June 7, 1958 he married Betty Burnette in Waco. In 1958 he started teaching and coaching in Hillsboro. In 1966 he went to Arlington High School where he was head basketball coach until 1984 at which time he became a counselor until his retirement in 1996. He was an avid fisherman, traveler, and a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church. Dale loved blue grass music, country-western music, and especially loved his grandkids. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Betty Archer of Whitney; children, Dean Archer and wife, Shauwn, of Haslett, Debbie Welch and husband, Mike, of Fort Worth, and De Ann McHugh and husband, Greg, of Saginaw; sister, Sue Moorman and husband, Jim, of DeSoto; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Memorials may be made to the Dale Archer Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o First National Bank of Central Texas, 300 E. Elm, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
