Darrell Brent Mathis left this earth to be with the Lord on July 1, 2024, in Ruidoso, New Mexico.
He was born September 8, 1971, in Whitney, Texas to Gloria and Hugh Mathis. Brent graduated from Hillsboro High School, where he was involved in football (which he loved), basketball and baseball. He also attended Texas Christian University and Tarleton State University for a short period of time.
Brent worked for years for his uncle, Hub Markwardt, at Encon Ceiling Fans in Fort Worth, Texas. In 2008, he opened his own business, Canyon Lighting, Etc. in Springtown, Texas. He sold the business and retired July 29, 2022. Brent moved to Ruidoso, New Mexico on October 3, 2022, where he bought several Airbnb condominiums, cabins and a lodge.
He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, listening to music, singing Karaoke and taking long walks with his fur baby, Dobi. Brent loved the Lord and spent a lot of his time listening to gospel music and reading his Bible.
Preceded in death by his dad, Hugh Mathis; and his grandparents, Thelma and Blackie Jones, Brent is survived by his son, Dylan Mathis; his mother, Gloria Mathis; his half-sister, Shelby Crawford; several cousins; and his faithful fur baby, Dobi.
Graveside services were held July 13, 2024, with Reverend Paul Clark of Walnut Street Baptist Church officiating. The burial took place at Hillcrest Garden of Memory, Hillsboro, Texas.
