Daryl Sanders, 95, of Hillsboro passed away Monday night, May 8, 2017, at Providence Hospice Place in Waco. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017, at the Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Danny Gilliam and Rev. Ken James officiating. Burial will follow at Dresden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at the funeral home.

Daryl was born February 26, 1922 in Frost to John and Nettie “Lena” (Moore) Sanders. On November 5, 1945, he was united in marriage to Bernice Melton in Mertens. She preceded him in death on December 9, 2004. During War World II, Daryl served his country with the United States Army.

For many years, Daryl farmed in the Malone, Bynum, and Ryenzie areas in Hill County. After moving to Hillsboro in 1978, he went to work for the Texas Department of Transportation, retiring in 1988 as a construction inspector.

An active member of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro, Daryl served as a Deacon and Men’s Sunday School Teacher for many years. He later attended the Downtown Men’s Bible Class.

In his younger days, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. A very devoted grandfather, Daryl loved to play 42 and listen to the classic country music at Woodbury in his spare time.

Also preceding him in death were his parents; grandson, Jonathan Sanders; two sisters, Clemmie Jean Strickland and Blonnie Merle Turner; and a brother, Pete Sanders.

Survivors include his children, Michael D. Sanders and wife, Becky, and Brenda J. Pederson and husband, David, all of Hillsboro; two grandsons, Brian Pederson and wife, Lacy, of Spring and Mark Pederson and wife, Lyndsey, of Bynum; four great-grandchildren, Kate and Hagen Pederson of Bynum and Coy and Cara Pederson of Spring; several nieces and nephews; and other extended family.
