David Wayne Brackin, of Itasca, went peacefully to his eternal home on Wednesday, July 28 at the age of 47 after fighting a courageous battle with Epthilioid Sarcoma. David was born on July 1, 1974, to Regi and Sandra Brackin.
As a young child, David began his school career in Itasca, where he was involved in sports and was a member of the percussion section of the Itasca marching band, and was an active member of the FFA. As a freshman, he won Grand Champion with his pig, named Sugar Pig.
In June of 1990, David’s family moved to Stephenville, Texas where David completed his last two remaining high school years and met his future wife, Martha. In 1992, David graduated from Stephenville High School and began his work career. That summer, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. His first jobs were with First Financial Bank and One Stop convenience store. He later installed car audio systems at Gifford Electronics in Stephenville and was promoted to sales.
David and Martha began dating in 1992 and he proposed to her during the summer of 1994 at his aunt’s lake house in Lake Worth. They were married on June 17, 1995, at First Baptist Church in Stephenville. The newlyweds moved to Amarillo in August 1995, when Martha enrolled at Amarillo Community College. David and Martha moved to Itasca in 1997. They joined the church in which David had grown up, and David enrolled in Lincoln Tech in Grand Prairie where he later earned a Light Commercial A/C & Heating certification on March 6, 1999. David began his HVAC career with Almour York and then Walker Mechanical. in January of 2001, David was employed by Klund Services in Joshua where he worked continuously for 20 years.
He and Martha celebrated the births of their daughters, Gillian Rose, on Nov. 6, 2001, and Hannah Ruth on June 10, 2005.
David loved helping others and was happiest when he was working to meet the needs of those in the community, for example serving as president of the Emergency Services Dispatch 1 board. He also enjoyed camping, collecting guns, tools and pocket knives, and spending time with his family. His greatest pleasure was watching his daughters work hard and reach their goals.
When Gillian was in the 7th grade, she was given a class assignment to interview her hero and she chose her dad as the subject of her project. She recorded him recounting his formula for success -- “If you want to be a success, be a doer. Don’t expect someone else to do what needs to be done; don’t be lazy.” He worked hard every day to make the world a better place.
Above all, David loved the Lord. In 1987, at the age of 13, he made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at Walnut Street Missionary Baptist Church where he became an ordained deacon in 2005. He joyously told anyone willing to listen about God’s grace. David was a walking testimony for Jesus and the definition of a good, decent man.
David is survived by his wife Martha Ruth Waters Brackin and their daughters, Gillian Rose Brackin and Hannah Ruth Brackin of Itasca; his parents Regi and Sandra Brackin of Arlington; his sister Alaina (Brackin) Aday and husband Jeff of Midlothian; his brother Michael Brackin and wife Hannah of Bryan; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Michael and Mary Waters; sisters-in-law and their husbands, Michelle and Bryan Hale and Melissa Waters and Matt Singer; his nieces and nephews Madeleine Rush Hale, Farryn Nicole Aday, Adalynn Paige Aday, Katherine Grace Hale, Kase Michael Brackin, Katie Hill Brackin, Mallory Mae Singer, Myles Wayne Brackin, Macey Rose Brackin, and Beau Wesley Brackin; his Grandmothers, Rebecca Tekell of Itasca and Rose Marie Brackin of Itasca.
