David Liston Slack, 80, of Whitney, passed away on January 3, 2020. The family will hold a memorial service at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 18, 2020, at the Whitney Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 106 Tree Shadow Lane, Whitney.
David was born on May 30, 1939 in Dallas, Texas to Liston and Louise (Stevenson) Slack. On April 29, 1968, he married Fredia Eastep in Fort Worth. Also in 1968, David joined the City of Fort Worth as a police office where he was in Class #34. He worked as a patrol officer, a K-9 officer, a crime scene investigator, and eventually in the 911 communications department before retiring from the City of Fort Worth in 1998.
His interest in family genealogy lead him to discovery of his Scottish heritage. He served as the Texas Covener for the Scottish Keith Clan for several years while wearing his kilt proudly.
David dedicated his life to Jehovah and became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on April 22, 1972 and served as an elder in his congregation for many years. He was a faithful servant and loved sharing the message of God’s kingdom. He will always be remembered for the way he lived his life. Despite any trials that his life threw at him he overcame them all. He will be remembered as a wonderful, caring husband, a great provider for his family, a devoted father, and well loved by all for his ability to bring light heartedness to the room. We will all miss the songs he sang to us.
He was preceded in death by his father, Liston Worth Slack, his mother, Louise Corine Stevenson Slack and a sister Carol Jean Slack.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Fredia Lois Eastep Slack; a brother, Michael Worth Slack; children, Laura Lynn Dahman, Jerry Ray Smith, Phillip Liston Slack, Kenneth Warren Smith, and Corie Dawn Griffin; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
