David Ray McPherson, 65, of Whitney, TX, passed away of a heart attack and went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, September 17, 2021. Services will be 10 AM Friday, September 24, 2021, at Abiding Life Church, 1105 N Brazos St, Whitney, TX 76692, with Pastor Curtis McGehee officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at 9 AM. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 10:00 AM at the Cowboy Cemetery in Rochelle, TX.

David was born on September 18, 1955, in Fort Worth, TX, to Rosemary and John Earl McPherson. David graduated from Richland Springs High School in Richland Springs, TX, in 1974. He went on to attend college at Angelo State University from 1974-1979, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Biology. He married his high school sweetheart, Donna, on May 22, 1977, and together they raised a family in Whitney, TX. David enjoyed a long and successful career, during which he worked as a science teacher in O’Donnell, TX, and Whitney, TX, as a plant manager at Vesuvius in Hillsboro, TX, and as a superintendent at Abney Concrete in Hillsboro, TX. David and Donna attended Abiding Life Church.

At 6’4”, David was a gentle giant. Many who knew David commented that he was the sweetest person they had known. He was full of praise for those around him and felt great joy in lifting others up. David had a signature grin and a continually sunny disposition. He was calm and collected, and his steady nature always provided a sense of comfort to those around him. He had a great sense of humor and loved to share the laughter and silly jokes, especially with his wife and children. David was a hard worker and delighted in the satisfaction of a job well done. He was a savvy businessman with an exceptional ability to solve problems. Above all, David excelled as a family man. He was a patient, loving, husband, father, and grandfather who always put his family first. Some of his favorite memories with his family included air boating, going on trips to Waco, and working construction with his son, Derek; attending his son Tyler’s Navy graduation; going on drives and listening to classic rock music with his daughter, Heather; enjoying peaceful evenings at home, riding through the country, and watching Heather’s sports with his wife Donna; and spending quality time with family friend Amanda and her son Trevor, who became like a daughter and grandson to him. David was one of a kind, and his memory will be cherished by his family, friends, coworkers, and members of his community.

David was preceded in death by his father, John Earl McPherson; his mother, Rosemary McPherson; his brother, John McPherson; his sister, Carla Jean McPherson; and his nephew, Billy Carter.

He is survived by his wife, Donna McPherson, of Whitney, TX; his children, Derek McPherson, of Clifton, TX, Tyler McPherson, of Whitney, TX, Heather McPherson, of Rogers, AR, and Amanda Gatlin, of Whitney, TX; his grandson, Trevor Gatlin, of Whitney, TX; his sister, Debbie McPherson, of Llano, TX; and many beloved in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
