David was the son of Ewell Duayne and Ruby Mae Davenport Porter. He grew up in Hillsboro and Abbott. For many years he worked as a telephone cable splicer for Alltel Telephone and other telephone companies, and later became an independent contractor providing cable splicing services. He married Catherine Clymore on May 26, 1989. A member of Abiding Life Full Gospel Church, David was active in the church's mission trips and also played the drums for the church's music program. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor and making people laugh. When there was time, he enjoyed fishing, but most of all he loved being with his family. He was preceded in death by his father on April 21, 1965. Survivors include: His wife, Catherine Porter of Whitney; His mother, Ruby Cathey of Hubbard; 6 children, Shelley Darlene Smith of Hillsboro, Sheila Denise Arnold and husband, Tony, of Whitney, Crystal Waynette Porter of Hillsboro, Cassandra Mae Porter, Elizabeth Ann Porter, and David Wayne Porter, Jr. all of Whitney; 3 brothers, Benny Porter and wife, Norma, of Alvin, Rickey Leon Barber of Peoria, and Sam Porter of West Beach, FL; 9 sisters, Joyce Leveque of Lake Charles, LA, Teresa Jean Uptmore of West, Sandra Porter, Pam Herrington of Forestburg, Kay Warren of Marietta, GA, Paula Sanders of Dallas, Gladys Shirley of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Debra Dixon of Arlington, Elaine Vaughn of Adamsville, TN; 5 grandchildren, Megan and Matthew Smith, Laney and Brooklyn Arnold, and Sydney Atwell; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
