David Thomas, Jr

David B. Thomas, Jr., age 67, of Hillsboro passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017, at a local hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Billy Schulz officiating. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery in Mertens. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM, Monday evening at the funeral home.

Dave was born on May 27, 1950 in Fort Belvoir, VA, to David B. and Larue C. (Durham) Thomas, Sr. During his youth, he lived in many states and countries, including Japan and France while growing up as the son of a career Air Force Colonel. He completed college in Nebraska and at Texas A&M.

After settling in Hill County, he went to work for Texas State Technical College in Waco in the 1980's and was still a psychology professor there at the time of his passing. A strong Christian who loved the Lord, he was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro. He and Brenda Schulz were united in marriage on May 27, 1995, in Mertens.

Dave was very kind hearted and compassionate to all he met and was a loving and caring family man. A gentle spirit, he was loved by so many people. He enjoyed listening to music, playing his guitar and traveling. In addition, he was always attentive to current events and was an avid movie buff.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Paul Thomas; and two sisters, Page Thomas and Elaine Bankey. His family was blessed to have him in their lives and they all loved him very much. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Brenda Thomas of Hillsboro; three children, Shawn Stinson of Arizona, Khris Stinson of Dallas and Jeremy Stinson of Bedford; and seven grandchildren, Natalie, Alyssa, Gabriel, Logan and Shawn Stinson, Jr., and Dustin and Caitlin Turner.
