Dean Bennett

Dean Paul Bennett, age 78, of Hillsboro went to be with his Lord on Saturday, May 13, 2017. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, at the Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Danny Gilliam officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 PM, Sunday, at Marshall & Marshall in Hillsboro.

Born on January 15, 1939 in Hillsboro, he was the son of Dennis and Pauline Bennett. He attended Hillsboro schools, graduating in the top of his class. He was well respected by his teachers, classmates, and teammates.

On July 11, 1959, he married his high school sweetheart, Brenda Jones, at the First Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Following his graduation from the University of Texas Pharmacy School in January 1961 with a Bachelor of Science Degree, the couple returned to Hillsboro where he worked and later became co-owner and operator of H & R Drug Store in Hillsboro.

In December 1987, he retired to become a full-time cattle rancher on their farm, where he and his wife raised their sons, and still live there today. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hillsboro all of his life and a 50 year member of the Hillsboro Masonic Lodge.

Dean Paul was always working! He had many interests in which he was active and involved. While a pharmacist, he bought a cattle farm which fulfilled a lifelong dream. He raised his own hay crop and cared diligently for his herd, and enjoyed every minute of it.

For over 20 years, he served on the Board of Directors of the Federal Land Bank of Texas, and the Hillsboro State Bank. He was an influential member of those bank boards.

When his sons were young, he coached summer minor league baseball for 10 years, going all the way to the State Finals for 7 of those years. Dean Paul always strived to do well in everything he did. He was known for being a hard worker, a good friend, and someone who could be relied upon.

Survivors include his wife Brenda of 58 years; his sons, Stephen Bennett and wife, Kim, and Scott Bennett and wife, Sarah; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother Carl Max Bennett and wife, Carolyn, of Corsicana. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and numerous friends, new and old. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
