Dell (Boswell) Bonds, 95, of Whitney, passed away August 20, 2012, at Town Hall Estates, Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, August 23, 2012, at Marshall and Marshall Chapel in Whitney with Marsha Brown and Reverend Eddie Booth officiating. Clara Adelle Boswell was born September 28, 1916, on her family farm near Whitney, Texas. Her parents were George and Clara (Lee) Boswell. She graduated from Whitney High School in 1934. She was a devoted member of the Whitney Ex-Students Association. On October 3, 1936, she married Frank Bonds who preceded her in death on November 2, 1968.

Dell loved Whitney. Her motto was, “If you can’t find it in Whitney, you don’t need it.” Having grown up on a farm, she learned the value of hard work in the fields alongside her nine brothers and sisters, and she carried that work ethic with her until her retirement and thereafter helping others. She had several different part time jobs over the years. For a number of years, she owned and operated Bonds Variety Store.

She was a great cook and a pristine housekeeper. Most of all she was a proud mother and Nana. She also adored her large extended family.

Dell was a member of the Whitney Missionary Baptist Church. She was a very generous and loving person, and she expressed that love by giving to and helping others.

Dell leaves behind a son, George Bonds of Hemphill, and a daughter, Claudette Holmes and husband Dick of Hillsboro; three grandchildren, Christie Holmes Johnson and husband, Kirk of Southlake, Carrie Holmes Jackson and husband Kevin of Aledo, and David Holmes and wife Kelli of Hillsboro; and seven great-grandchildren, Mallory, Blake, and Meredith Johnson; Kaitlyn and Lainey Jackson; and Trey and Avery Holmes.

She was preceded in death by nine siblings, Imogene Boswell Bonds, Georgia “Tince” Brown, Clark Boswell, Florence “Cat” Reed, Frances “Hoot” Halford, Ed “Bully” Boswell, Joe Boswell, Harlan “Cutter” Boswell, and Larry “Pistol” Boswell.
