Delmer Glynn Thomas, 81 of Whitney died Jan. 20, 2008 in Whitney. He was born on June 29, 1926 in Dawson to George Washington and Bessie Onita Haley Thomas. He graduated from Union Hill High School in 1951. He served his country during World War II in the Navy and during the Korean Conflict in the Army. He was a lead singer with a band in the early 1940's and a salesman in Salt Lake City, Utah during the 1950's. He lived in California before moving back to Texas in 1975. He served a term as a Hill County commissioner for precinct #1 during the 1980's and worked with several government offices in Hill County in the later 1990's. On January 22, 1999, he married Marguerite Schlehuber in Whitney. He attended Fort Graham Baptist Church and was a member of McCowan Valley Assoc. He liked woodworking. He never met a stranger and a man that left many footprints. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa and papa and was very well known and liked by many. Preceding him in death were his parents; twin brother, Elmer Lynn Thomas and sisters, Velma Corene Raley, Milbra Christene Baggett and Allie Odell Bopp. Survivors include his wife, Marguerite Thomas of Whitney; children, Glenda Acker and husband, Bill of Canon City, CO, Douglas Thomas of Raton, NM, Sandra Specht and husband, James of Whitney, Frankie Lykins and wife, Jamie of Winnsboro, Lisa Schlehuber and Michael Sewell of Abbott; grandchildren, Shaun Acker and wife, Camellia of Garland, Brittany, Heather, James, Christina Specht all of Whitney, Maya Lykins, Nataline Lykins all of Winnsboro; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
