Deloris, or as many knew her “Granny”, Guthrie, 80 of Whitney, passed away on September 6, 2020, in Hillsboro. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at Whitney Memorial Park with Pastor Greg Johnson officiating.
Deloris was born on October 13, 1939, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, to D.C. Shockley and Ada Octava "Tava" (Stark) Trousdale and moved to Mexia, Texas when she was just a child, where she grew up. In later years she moved to Whitney Texas where she raised her children along with many others.
Her door was always open to those in need and often as not you would find family, her many friends and unexpected guests gathered around her table for a meal or just coffee and conversation. Her smile and quick wit brought laughter to all. Her home was a haven for her children with breakfast on the table every morning and supper every evening. Her grandchildren looked forward to the holidays because of her famous banana pudding and peanut butter balls!
She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, the glue that held our family together and she will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
Mom, you fought a good fight. COPD was a monster that you knew well and evidently you were holding at bay. But that beautiful heart, the very same heart that was the first sound that we, your children, heard, was tired and just gave out. We were not expecting that, not your heart! Sick with COPD, that one thing you were living with not leaving us quickly with. But because of your up to date testimony of your salvation, your love of Jesus, this is only a “bye Mom, love you, talk to you later”, for we who follow the same Savior will see you again.
Thank you for the legacy, for the unconditional love; for being our MOM! We were the blessed ones!
Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Harvey Shockley and a sister, Barbara Crowder; and granddaughter Virginia Guthrie and a half sister, Donna Sue Roberts.
Survivors include her children Janie Eilers-Satterwhite and husband, Marshall, Julia Scott and husband, Mark, Dee Ann Bellinger and husband, Roger, Lloyd Guthrie and Nekki Guthrie; grandchildren, Sarah Russell, Jon Williams, Mac Jones, Lorena Findley, Logan Bellinger, Elijah Guthrie, Kody Shannon, Hannah Rocha, Melissa White, Chris Guthrie, Tina Collins, Stephanie Davalos, Tiffany Guthrie, Joseph Guthrie, Jennifer Brantley, Jimmy Guthrie, Mike Guthrie, Jerri Ann Pugh, Bridget Pugh; granddaughters of the heart, Debbie Williams and Vickie Lopez; numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and half-brother and half-sisters, Linda Fetter (Bill), Johnny Shockley (Carol), Joyce Fetter (Melvin), Brenda Kilgore, and Janice Hodge (John).
Memorials may be made in memory of Deloris Guthrie to the Whitney First Church of the Nazarene, P.O. Box 1115, Whitney, TX 76692 or St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
