Dempsey L. Jean, 85, of Hillsboro passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Baylor All Saints Hospital in Fort Worth. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 21, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Stanley Lohse officiating. Burial will follow at New Woodbury Cemetery near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Dempsey was born July 10, 1925 in Blum to Clarence E. and Mary Ethel (Allen) Jean. During World War II, he served his country in the United States Army. On March 21, 1950 he married Darline Thomas and she preceded him in death on November 22, 2008.
For 27 years he was an assembly worker at General Motors, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Woodbury Baptist Church and the Woodbury Band, for which he played guitar in for many years. An avid farmer and rancher, Dempsey enjoyed working with his cows and raising a large garden.
Also preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers Darrel Jean and Otis Jean; and two sisters, Mozelle Perdue and Pauline Burns.
Survivors include two daughters, Sue Hollis of North Richland Hills and Patsy Pappajohn and husband, Nick, of Fort Worth; brother, Donald Jean and wife, Wanda, of Morgan; two sisters, Ruthie Hudson and husband, Bill, of Granbury and Katherine Burnett of Anaheim, CA; five grandchildren, Tammy Hollis of North Richland Hills, Kevin York and wife, Kristy, Tyler York and wife, Krystal, and Nicholas Pappajohn and wife, Amanda, all of Fort Worth, and Haley Povero and husband, Marc; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
