Dennis Baker

Dennis L. Baker, 65, of Hallsburg passed away Monday, June 18, 2012, in Waco. Graveside services will be held at Noon on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro with Bro. Andy Crawford officiating. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Thursday, June 21, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Dennis was born December 9, 1946 in Hillsboro to John and Amy (Waller) Baker. During the Vietnam War, he served his country in the U. S. Navy. He was a man of great love for family and country. He didn’t have much of a formal education but rather was a man educated through the school of life. On January 8, 1982 he married Betty Bledsue. Much of his life was spent with his loving wife living on their farm in Menlow. As age and health took its toll, they decided to move closer to town and settled in Hallsburg, where both lived out the remainder of their lives.

As a husband, father, and grandfather, his family was the most important thing in his life and he cherished the time he got to spend with them. Dennis loved life and enjoyed being around people but his most trusted companion in his later years was his little dog, Half-pint, who remained with him right up to the end.

Dennis was a talker and there wasn’t a topic around that he didn’t have an opinion on or knowledge of how it should be done. A mechanic by trade, there wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix or rig to make tasking easier. He loved to tinker. He was also an avid gardener and would preserve and can the bounty he grew. His talents were many.

His friendship and love will be missed but we joy and rejoice in his new beginning with his Savior Jesus Christ and his reunion with family and friends of the past.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife on February 20, 2008; and step-son, Ray Dorris.

Survivors include his daughters, Jaime Gavlik and Jennifer Baker; three step-children, Wanda Burns and husband, Ruben, Jimmy Dorris, and Dana Wendt; brother, Dub Baker; several grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces, Franklin Baker, Julie Baker, Arden Baker, Roger Baker, Korena Penny, and Jacob Penny.
