Dennis M. Monthei, 84, of Malone passed away Thursday, December 11, 2014, at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2014, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Joe Ardy and Rev. Michael Nemec officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Malone. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday, December 13, 2014, at the funeral home.

Born January 10, 1930 in Malone, he was the son of Henry Gus and Olga (Zettler) Monthei. In his early years, Dennis worked for the railroad and later owned and operated Dennis’ Drive In Grocery in Malone for 12 years. He also farmed, ranched, raised cattle, and did custom hay bailing. During the Korean Conflict, he served his country in the United States Army. On April 12, 1953 he married Geraldine Korb. She preceded him in death on January 22, 1996.

In his spare time, Dennis enjoyed fishing, hunting (especially bird hunting), watching cooking shows (especially Justin Wilson), playing dominos, making homemade sausage, doing custom butchering and processing, and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Malone.

Also preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Allen, Odell, and Fred Monthei; three sisters, Ella Mae Maynard, Lenora Robertson, and Lillian Caram; and a great-grandson, Danny Wayne Lenox, Jr.

Survivors include his two daughters, Brenda G. Baxter and husband, Danny R., and Karen A. Willenborg and husband, Mitchell D., all of Malone; two brothers, Louis Monthei of Fort Worth and Melvin Monthei and wife, Mary, of Crowley; five grandchildren, Danielle Reamy of Malone, Nicholle R. Lenox and husband, Danny, of Brazoria, Brandon S. Baxter and wife, Megan, of Malone, Blake R. Willenborg and wife, Emily, of Kingwood, and Audrey B. Willenborg of Stephenville; and ten great-grandchildren, Alexis, Tristan, Noah, Isaiha, Gunner, Case, Cal, Paisley, Jillian, and Brandt.

Memorials may be made to the Salem Lutheran Cemetery Association, 718 HCR 3424 E, Malone, TX 76660.
