Dewey West, born on August 7, 1967, in Dallas, Texas, was our small-town cowboy, hero, and local jokester who had no boundaries to his love or jokes. His huge heart and witty sense of humor was something that he shared with strangers, friends, and family. He made everyone who had the blessing of meeting him laugh from his jokes and sometimes even blush by his eagerness to share his infamous wrangler tattoo, even to hospital nurses and doctors.
Dewey’s passion for serving others was fulfilled through volunteering at the Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo for eleven years, Bynum volunteer fire department for many years, and Mayor of Bynum, Texas. Dewey’s hard work ethic for providing for his family through the Union Pacific Railroad for twenty-five years was the passion he needed to travel the United States including making many close friends in Kansas. In recent years, his interests included being a barber for many loved ones. He loved being the local comedian while people were in his barber chair. Dewey’s resilience for life fighting his long health issues gave him the drive to love harder, laugh more, and uplift everyone who came into his path.
Dewey has hung up his cowboy hat after a long ride and resilient fight. He is greeted in heaven by his mother, Mildred Ann West, father, James Leo West, two sisters Mildred Annette Kelm and Mildred Nannette West, amongst numerous aunts, uncles, and loved ones. He is survived by beloved soulmate and wife, Louann West; children, Danni and McKenzie West and Bailey and Emily Vanderzwart; grandchildren, Brayden Crist, Harli West-Kelm, and Caryland and Dana Smith; aunts, Mary Falteisek, Linda Park, Sylvia West, Carolyn Paris, Glenda West, Donna West, and Honey Bee Morris; uncle, Ben West; brother-in-law, Kenny Kelm; nephew Kenny Kelm II; and many cousins, family, and friends.
