Dickie Ray Cleveland, 61, of Whitney, passed from this life on Thursday morning, November 12, 2015 in Whitney. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, November 15, 2015, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney with Rev. Greg Johnson, officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6-8- PM, Saturday, November 14, 2015, at the funeral home.

Dickie was born on September 22, 1954, in Hillsboro, to Menton Ordway and Frances Gertrude (Tichavosky) Cleveland. He attended Hillsboro High School. On April 17, 1973, he was united in marriage to Sonja Arnold in Whitney. Dickie worked for Flowers Construction (Willbros) for over 42 years. While living in Whitney, he served on the Whitney Volunteer Fire Department where he was elected to several office roles including Fire Chief. Dickie was also an EMT and was active with the local EMS during his tenure with the fire department.

Dickie had a love for Sonja that was precious and everlasting. He had a passion for hunting and loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed helping them, and was often found assisting with vehicle, electrical and plumbing repairs. Dickie was known to his grandchildren as “Pops” and enjoyed spending time with them. It was know by all that “Pops could fix anything.” His family and friends were some of his greatest joys.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Stephen L. Cleveland.

Dickie is survived by his wife, Sonja Cleveland; son, Nicholas (Nick) Cleveland and wife, Courtney of Fort Worth; daughter, Carla Williams and husband, Brent of Lorena; sister, Donna Hocker and husband, David of Hillsboro; sister-in-law, Vickie Cleveland; grandchildren, Brenlie Williams, Elijah (Eli) Cleveland, and Carter Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Jeffrey Garrett, Brian Cleveland, Michael Cleveland, Tony Arnold, Jimmy Carpenter, L. D. Mooring, Matthew Peacock and Kyle Hood.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
