Dolores Ann Bierschenk Gremminger, 92, died Monday, December 12, 2022, in Lewisville, Texas. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and Rosary will be recited from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro on Wednesday, January 4, 2023. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Burial immediately following at Hillcrest Garden of Memory.
Dolores was born October 28, 1930, in Lindsay, Texas, to Joe and Matilda Koelzer Bierschenk.
On November 4, 1948, she and G. F. “Shorty” Gremminger were married in Weatherford, Texas. They were a team for the following 58 years as they made a life together owning and managing dairy, livestock and crop farms, and raising their family of seven children. They moved to Hill County in the 1950’s and lived in Hillsboro for many years until Shorty preceded her in death on July 28, 2007.
She was a long-time parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Altar Society.
Dolores was a devoted wife, loving mother, and friend to many. She was a strong woman who worked diligently to sustain her family. Like most women of her generation, she knew how to cook, grow fruits and vegetables, preserve food, sew garments, drive a tractor, and care for livestock. Because she understood and enjoyed bookkeeping and accounting, she also managed the bookkeeping for the family farm. She enhanced those skills by completing related business courses at Hill College. She worked for many years as the Bookkeeper for Fleming Lumber Co in Hillsboro.
Some of her family’s fondest memories are of the delicious pies she constantly made for her husband and family (every Sunday dinner included multiple pies) as well as the fruit jelly and the cinnamon rolls she made from scratch mostly because her grandchildren loved them!
In addition to her husband, Shorty Gremminger, she was preceded in death by sons-in-law, Robert Remkes and Kenny Farthing.
Survivors include her children, Kathryn Remkes of Porter, TX, Diane Farthing of Savannah, GA, Larry Gremminger and wife, Lois, of Richmond, TX, Raymond Gremminger and wife, Kathy, of West, TX, James Gremminger and wife, Jan, of Aquilla, TX, Mary Lewis and husband, Sam, of Cleburne, TX, and Brenda Schwartz and husband, Keith, of Flower Mound, TX; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; her sister, Louise Neu of Bridgeport, TX; and brother, Lawrence Bierschenk and wife, Barbara, of Weatherford, TX.
