Don Crane, 77, of Whitney, passed away on August 2, 2017, at a Waco hospital. The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
Don was born on April 18, 1940, in Safford, Arizona, to Oxnard and Josephine (Houck) Crane. He grew up in Morenci, Arizona where his dad worked in the copper mine. Don worked there as well until it affected his health.
He moved to Centralia, Illinois where he worked for numerous trucking companies. After his wife Shelba’s passing, he moved to Texas, settling in Bedford with his brother, Leroy. He worked on various construction projects in the Metroplex driving belly dump trucks including the DFW airport and the extension of US Highway 287 in Ellis County.
On February 15, 2006, he married Connie Fuller in Fort Worth. For the past 10 years they have resided in the Whitney area. He was a very active member of Open Range Cowboy Church in Whitney.
A collector of remote controlled vehicles, he also loved 18 wheelers, motorcycles and western TV shows.
Preceding him in death were his parents; first wife, Nell Jensen; and second wife, Shelba Crane.
Survivors include his wife, Connie, of Whitney; children, Chuck Crane and wife, Diane, of Kalamazoo, MI, Scott Crane of Whitney, Billy Crane and wife, Mickki, of Cottonwood, AZ; step-daughter, Vicki Butler and husband, Edward, of Whitney; eight grandchildren, Michael Crane, Shelby Crane, Joshua Crane, Arianna Crane and Jason, Nathaniel Martin, William Casey, Katrina Casey; and several nieces and nephews.
