Don Maloney, age 71, of Columbus, OH, Puerto Vallarta, MX, and Lake Whitney, TX died Sep. 27, 2013, in Columbus, OH. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at the Open Range Cowboy Church, 582 FM 1713, near Whitney. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013.
Don was born Aug. 29, 1942 in Erie, PA the son of Gerald H. and Leona Maloney. Don and his wife, Karen, together owned and operated numerous real estate offices. Don was a successful developer and entrepreneur. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy for 4 years and graduated from the University of Louisville with a B.A.
Don recently celebrated 38 years of continuous sobriety in the Fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous. Together, he and Karen, were often invited to speak around the country at AA and Al-Anon conventions. Don rarely went anywhere where he did not touch lives.
Don is survived by his wife, Karen Clausell Maloney; his children, Matt Maloney and Krysti Maloney of Dallas, and Walter Zeier and wife, Karina, and their son, Tony, of Columbus, OH; 2 sisters, Betty Bramblett and husband, Jim, of Hillsboro, TN and Jeanette Rodencal and husband, John, of Cincinnati, OH; sister-in-law, Gail Maloney of Louisville, KY; and several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by a brother, R.H (Pat) Maloney. He will be extremely missed throughout this country and others.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the charity of one's choice.
