Donald Mac Thompson, 72, of Whitney, passed away March 15, 2016, at his residence. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 19, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Whitney with Dr. Carl Jennings and Rev. Philip Wottrich, officiating. A memorial visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., on Friday, March 18, 2016, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.
Donald was born on May12, 1943, in Fannin County. Texas, to Cecil and Sadie (McCollum) Thompson. He grew up on the family farm in Fannin County, graduating from South Oak Cliff High School in 1961. He attended college at the University of Dallas on a baseball scholarship, receiving his bachelor’s degree in business in 1965. Due to an arm injury, he turned down an offer from the Chicago Cubs to play baseball. He then went to work for Mobile Oil, starting in the mail room and working his way to an executive position, retiring in 1995.
In recent years, he enjoyed going to the casinos, especially playing the slot machines. An avid golfer and baseball fan, he was very proud of the hole-in-one he made in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. He loved all animals, but especially dogs.
A resident of Whitney since 1996, he was a member of First Baptist Church and the Sweet Spirit Sunday school class where he enjoyed studying and discussing God’s word.
He was very proud of his grandchildren and all of their accomplishments.
Preceding him in death were his parents; first wife, Lenna D’Anne Thompson; a sister, JoAnn Thompson; and a nephew, Adam Thompson.
Survivors include his wife, Lecell Thompson of Whitney; children, Mike Thompson and wife Tracy of Georgetown, Lisa Fanz and husband, George of Lott, and Amber Love and husband, Tim of San Marcos; four grandchildren, Mikala, Noah, Livi and Kate; a brother, Leon Thompson and wife, Velma of Midlothian; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
