Donna Kay (Honeycutt) Elkins

Donna K. Honeycutt-Elkins went to be with the Lord peacefully on Monday morning March 23, 2020 in her home in Itasca, Texas, at the age of 58. A Graveside service is scheduled for Friday, March 27, 2020 at 3:00pm at Peoria Cemetery, with Reverend Clay Strawn  officiating the ceremony.

Donna was born on February 15, 1962 in Clifton, Texas to Norman and Nancy Honeycutt, but raised in Hillsboro, Texas. She graduated from UTA in 1983 with a degree in Nursing, then graduated with a Criminal Justice degree in 1984. She then started her career as the first female crime scene officer at Tarrant County sheriff’s office. She was with this job for 10 years. During this time, she met and married Ron Elkins in 1991. They were married for 20 years but remained lifelong friends until her untimely death. She began her work as a dispatcher when she became pregnant with Forrest. She planned on going back to the field when she became pregnant with Jacob, and instead, continued her work as a dispatcher. Donna then quit and her family moved back to Hillsboro, where she began working for Child Protective Services for a year, and then later began her work with DHS for the next 3 years. She then went on to work as the chief officer for the Texas Workforce Commission in Hillsboro.

Donna is preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Jo Honeycutt; her father, Norman Lonzo Honeycutt, and her son, Forrest Tyler James Elkins.

She is survived by her son, Jacob Zachary Taylor Elkins; her Ex-Husband, Ron Elkins; many cousins, and lots of friends.
