Donna Rue (Bosler) Pickett

Donna Bosler Pickett, “Nanny”, age 71, passed away Wednesday January 18, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Donna was born May 10, 1951, in Amarillo, Texas to the late Elmer and Mildred Bosler.

Donna graduated from Lubbock High School in 1969. She would earn an Associate’s degree from Hill College, a Bachelor’s degree, and soon after, a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology, both from the University of Central Texas. Education and service were vitally important to Donna, leading her to become a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, and she remained a Licensed  Professional Counselor until her passing.

Most recently, she was the founder of Veterans Pardners, a non-profit service organization for veterans in need. This was but the latest of her endeavors to help others. Donna was active in Al-Anon for over 40 years, and was very proudly the sponsor of the Lake Whitney Alateen group. Donna truly believed and embodied the teachings of Jesus Christ. She was selfless in her dedication to helping anyone who needed it.

It was her family that meant the most to Donna. She married her high school sweetheart and stayed married for over 50 years. She had two sons, Troy in 1970 and Greg in 1974. She raised her sons with love and attention far beyond what they probably deserved and would have given them anything. Her grandchildren would be given everything. She celebrated her sons following her example and finally graduating college. She lived to see her two oldest grandchildren attend Texas A&M, and beamed with pride at the wonderful people they have become. The recent addition of her youngest grandson was one more reason for her to dote, not that she needed one.

Her family loved Donna in return. The sparkle in her eyes was the light of their lives. Her kindness and concern was given freely and generously. Her example of unconditional love and acceptance was their guidepost throughout her life. Her memory will be a blessing that eases the pain of her loss.

Donna is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gorden; her two sons, Greg and Troy Pickett, their wives Emily and Melissa; three grandchildren, Hayley, Kyle and Zachary Pickett. Beyond her immediate family, there are cousins and more distant relations which Donna treasured as if they were siblings. Going even further, there are the thousands of people whose lives she impacted and brought light to. Everyone who knew her will miss her and that magic sparkle.

A celebration of Donna’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m, Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Home in Whitney, Texas. The event will be live-streamed, with information available on Donna’s Facebook page shortly.
