Doris Jenkins

Doris Bernice Jenkins, 87, of Hillsboro passed away Thursday, March 1, 2012, at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2012, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Michael Nemec officiating. Burial will follow at Laurel Land Cemetery in Dallas. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.

Doris was born May 29, 1924 in Dallas to Wilson Elias and Naomi (Langford) Jenkins. She grew up in Dallas and graduated from Carter High School. After completing Four Seasons Business College, Doris went to work for the Veteran’s Administration. She would continue there for 38 years.

Before moving to Hillsboro in 1995, she was a member of Oak Cliff Presbyterian Church in Oak Cliff where she was active in the church choir. Doris had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She became a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro after moving here. From 1996-1997 she was a volunteer at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. She was an avid traveler and toured the world.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her special companion, a cat named “Baby”.

Survivors include her close friends, Gene and Linda Lilley of Hillsboro; two honorary grandchildren, Roger Lilley of Cedar Hill and Tricia Sokurenko and husband, Bill, of Westchester, PA; and two honorary great-granddaughters, Ella and Lauren Sokurenko of Westchester, PA.
