Doris Smith

Doris Hewett Smith, 92, of Hillsboro passed away Tuesday afternoon, December 20, 2016, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2016, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Ken James officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 22, at the funeral home.

Doris was born April 24, 1924 in Hillsboro to Rufus Belton and Delyn (Rogers) Ribble. A life-long resident of Hillsboro, she graduated from both Hillsboro High School and Hill Junior College. On October 19, 1951, Doris was united in marriage to Garland Hewett and he preceded her in death on December 3, 1954. She later married Hardin Smith on March 16, 1957 and he preceded her in death on July 26, 1995.

For over 13 years, Doris worked for TP&L in the transmission department. She was also employed at the ASCS Office and at Home Secretarial Service for several years. Doris was a member of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro, where she lovingly served as secretary for the church and for First Baptist Christian School for more than 30 years.

Also preceding her in death were her parents.

Survivors include her son, Garland Keith Hewett and wife, Vickie, of Gholson; granddaughter, Kelly Williams and husband, Kelby, of Hillsboro; four great-grandchildren, Annie, Kady, Kaleb, and Charlie Williams, all of Hillsboro; and several nieces and nephews.
