Dorlon (Morell) Penaluna

Dorlon Penaluna, 77 of San Angelo, formerly of Whitney, passed away on April 11, 2020, in San Angelo.   She will lie-in-state from 9 am to 5 pm on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.   A private family service will be held.

Dorlon was born on March 4, 1943, in Fort Worth Texas to Robert Lee and Dorothy Lee (Beard) Morell and grew up there where she graduated from Polytechnic High School.    On September 1, 1962, she was united in marriage to Richard Gene “Rich” Penaluna.

In 1969, they moved from Fort Worth to Whitney.  She was a homemaker for several years before going to work for the Whitney ISD as a food service director for 28 years before she retired in 2008.

After retiring, she moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico for several years to be with her daughter and grandchildren  before returning to Whitney in 2015.   Due to health reasons, she moved to San Angelo in 2018.  She was devoted to her family and grandchildren.

In her spare time she enjoyed golfing.  She was a member of King Memorial United Methodist Church in Whitney.

Preceding her in death were parents, her husband, Rich Penaluna on Feb. 13, 2002, and a son, Rich Penaluna, Jr.

Survivors include her children, Debbie Penaluna and husband, Michael Smith of San Angelo and Chris Penaluna of Carlsbad, New Mexico; grandchildren, Devin Groves of Waco, Brenna Groves and fiancé Tylar Colwell of Carlsbad, New Mexico and Dalton Penaluna of San Angelo; and great-granddaughter, Brezlynn Groves of Waco.
